Here at Longnor Wood we strive to give our guests an unforgettable experience whatever the weather and allow them to create long-lasting memories.

Since April 2022 Longnor Wood has been owned by employee-owned business WCF Ltd, who also operate 2 further 5-star camping sites in Northumberland and near Edinburgh.

Treating the Site Like Home

A large proportion of our team live on site and are proud to call Longnor Wood their home as well as their place of work. They run the site as their own and are deeply passionate about providing our guests the warmest of welcomes from their initial enquiry right until they return home. For many guests Longnor Wood is their own rural retreat and they return year after year. Alongside our small number of seasonal pitch holders we now call many of them our friends. We welcome their ongoing advocacy and loyalty to our Peak District campsite.

Striving for Improvements

By talking to our guests, visiting other sites and benchmarking best practice, here at Longnor Wood we think we know what good looks like. However we are never complacent and are always striving to make those continuous improvements that improve our facilities and our amenities, no matter how small. Each guest review is read and carefully considered. Where we see a good idea on one of our 5-star campsites we seek to implement it across the other two. As part of their ongoing role, our team are encouraged to find better ways to improve the guest experience at our Peak District campsite. We expect everyone to work to the same high standards.

Our Campsite Roles Here at Longnor Wood

Whether you work as a campsite warden, operations or maintenance assistant or housekeeper, we try to give our people diverse and interesting roles and seek to ensure that no two days are the same. As a small team, building a great rapport and level of trust with other members of the team is a must.

You will be expected to turn your hands to whatever needs doing, both inside and outdoors. It is inevitable that there is a large amount of cleaning particularly on lodge, caravan and hot tub changeover days. There are also days when you will be required to be outdoors regardless of the weather. Resilience and flexibility are therefore two important things you will need if you take a job with us.

Thinking on your feet in a variety of situations, some of which you will not have experienced before, is the key to being a successful campsite warden at Longnor Wood. Sometimes you will be on duty as a couple on your own and there may not be anyone immediate to turn to. Our employee owners are given sufficient levels of autonomy to make the best decisions for our guests, so good problem-solving skills are a must. It isn’t a 9-5 job and sometimes guest arrivals are disrupted timing wise by travel disruption and there may be no set “clocking off” time on busy days.

Waving the 5-star flag

Our team are proud of our AA 5-star status. We all work extremely hard to maintain the facilities at our Peak District campsite to high standards. One poor review caused by laziness or complacency can ruin the trust that our guests place in us.

We strive for a 95% success rate on our guest reviews, with most guests mentioning the friendliness and commitment of the team here at Longnor Wood. We expect our teams to go above and beyond to make the guests’ stay as memorable as possible and encourage them to book with us again. It’s why we have so many returning guests.

Supporting our local community

We are proud of our Peak District heritage and want to give back to our local community. We directly support a range of charities through corporate giving alongside some guest fundraising. We are corporate members of the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust.

Our owner WCF has a number of different charitable partnerships, as well as providing donations of both cash and product to a range of local and national charities.

Our Team

We give our people diverse and interesting roles and empower them to contribute to the ongoing success of Longnor Wood. We invest in ongoing training and personal development to ensure that our people have the skills they need and are engaged to find better ways of doing things.

Our structure facilitates the divestment of autonomy and responsibility through our Site Managers Sam and Ian Kitchen and their team, allowing them to make good decisions on behalf of our guests. We encourage them to run this Peak District campsite as if it were their own. We focus on ensuring that our teams receive a positive employee experience to create high levels of employee engagement and staff retention. This allows our people to retain high levels of personal connection with our loyal and returning guests.

WCF are proud to be a Real Living Wage employer which means that we pay our people a wage rate based on the real cost of living, as well as providing free touring pitches for our on-site campsite wardens. As part of a larger organisation our teams are also eligible for a wide range of other benefits.
