A warm welcome awaits you in the heart of the Peak District

Accessibility

This Access Statement does not contain personal opinions as to our suitability for those with access needs but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services that we offer all our guests. Guests with access needs should consider their own individual requirements and call us in advance of booking if they have any doubts as to whether their chosen accommodation will be suitable.

Introduction

We take pride in making our guests feel welcome and aim to ensure that everyone is able to enjoy their visit to Longnor Wood. Our wardens are pleased to offer assistance and advice when booking and/or during your stay. Our site is rated 5-star by the AA and we aim to ensure that our amenities are maintained to the highest standard. Longnor Wood tries to be dark sky friendly and we have low levels of lighting at dark.

If you have any queries or require any assistance, please phone 01298 83648 or email info@longnorwood.co.uk.

Pre-Arrival

We cater for tents, caravans, campervans and motor homes, as well as offering a selection of glamping pods, static caravans and holiday lodges. We have dog-friendly static caravans, glamping pods and holiday lodges but ensure that you select the dog-friendly option when booking as not all accommodation is designated as pet-friendly. Our tent and touring pitches are all-weather hardstanding. We do not have grass tent pitches. Our site roads are tarmac.

We accept enquiries and booking requests by email, online from our own website or via our booking partners or by telephone or post. Our website www.longnorwood.co.uk contains details and photographs of the facilities at the site. A copy of this Access Statement in larger font can be e-mailed on request.  Longnor sits in a rural location, up a narrow access road with passing places. Longnor village is about 2 miles away and has a limited range of facilities. The larger towns of Buxton and Bakewell are a 20-minute drive.

The road leading to the site is a country lane, with passing places only, and there is no pavement or streetlights. There are no public bus stops nearby and a car is essential if you are staying with us at Longnor Wood.  The nearest train station is at Buxton. Unfortunately, we can’t offer a private collection service, but our wardens will be pleased to organise taxis on request.

The nearest taxi service providing wheelchair accessible taxis is A2Z Cars Buxton and their contact number is 01298 83648.

The site has tarmac roads and is relatively flat, with 3 gradually sloping fields. Touring and tent pitches are gravel.

Car Parking and Arrival

The site has a security barrier which is accessed via a barrier card provided on arrival. The barrier can be activated without needing to leave your vehicle. Reception is located outside this gate and has level car parking facilities directly outside, with plenty of space to move around. On request we can do the registration without the guest leaving their car or provide for remote check-in. There is a seat inside Reception.

Once booked in, guests may park one car on their pitch or next to their static caravan or lodge. There is no car parking directly adjacent to the glamping pods or tent pitches. Any additional cars can be left in the car park at an additional charge, but space is limited.

Reception and Licensed Shop

We are open between 9am and 5pm daily. These are located in the centre of the site and are accessible via a sloping slab path. The reception door opens to 90cm and has a small step 12cm high. The reception counter is 73cm high at its lowest point.

The shop stocks a small range of items, with the closest supermarkets and facilities being located in Buxton or Bakewell (20 minutes’ drive). Our wardens will assist with the selection of any items in the shop if required.

The floor is carpet and the reception area is lit with fluorescent strip lighting.

The wardens speak English only. To help with communication in the office we can provide pen and paper to write instructions or questions on. All areas and pitches are clearly signposted from Reception. A site warden can show you to your pitch if you would like and ensure that you are comfortable.

Tent and Touring Facilities

Standard and serviced all weather touring pitches are available. We also have 4 all-weather tent pitches (no grass tent pitches available).

Pitches are pre-allocated prior to arrival and our wardens will utilise reasonable endeavours to account for all the needs of our guests stipulated at the time of booking. Specific requirements can be added in the notes section when your pitch is booked. Whilst we cannot always guarantee a designated pitch we will do our best to ensure that we accommodate any special needs. All pitches are clearly numbered.

All our hard-standing touring and tent pitches have 10 amp electric hook-ups only. The hard-standing pitches are well drained.

Our large fully serviced touring pitches are fully serviced with 10-amp electric hook-up, grey waste drainage and a direct water feed. Our fully serviced touring pitches typically measure 11m x 5.5m although we could accommodate a small number of vehicles up to 15m long. Please call us to ensure that we have availability for something suitable if you have a long vehicle.

Our standard touring pitches measure 7.5m x 5m and are large enough for a caravan or motorhome unit and an awning. We could accommodate a small number of vehicles up to 12m long. Please call us to ensure that we have availability for something suitable if you have a long vehicle.

Our all-weather tent pitches measure 4.5m x 3.5m and we can accommodate tents up to 6m x 6m including guy ropes.

Our 5-star amenities building is within 200 yards of our hard-standing pitches and within 400 yards of our glamping pods and tent pitches. Our static caravans, glamping pods and holiday lodges contain their own facilities.

Our wardens are available to assist with the pitching and levelling of your caravan, campervan or motorhome if required. We can also provide additional groundsheets for tents if required.

Glamping Pods

Our glamping pods are allocated are located in a quiet part of the site and whilst you are able to unload directly outside, cars must be parked in the designated parking spaces which are a short walk from the glamping pods. All pods are accessible via 3 steps onto a raised deck. There are no handrails. There is limited room for manoeuvre once inside. The pods are not suitable for wheelchair access. Low level lighting is in place after dark to preserve our dark sky status.

Our glamping pods have an en-suite shower room, WC and wash basin at conventional height.

Lodges

Our holiday lodges with hot tubs are located in a private area of the site with vehicular access restricted to lodge guests only. The lodge roadways are tarmac. Access to the lodges themselves is via 2 or 3 steps onto a long raised deck and there are handrails. The lodges entrances are not suitable for wheelchairs. Once inside the lodges are all one level, with sinks, toilets and equipment being at conventional height. The one-bedroom lodges have shower rooms and the two-bedroom lodges currently have a shower room and bathroom with shower over bath (however these are being replaced with shower rooms at the end of 2022). The room sizes in the lodges do not conform to wheelchair accessible standard BS8300.

The decking surfaces can become slippery when wet or icy and extreme care must be taken. The hot tubs are accessible via a set of steps and would not be suitable for guests with limited mobility.

Public Amenities

Our 5-star Amenity Block is located in the centre of the site. Our facilities are open 24 hours a day. The entrance doors to the toilet blocks are 71cm wide, with a small step of 7cm to the Ladies and two small separate steps to the Gents of 12 and 9 cm respectively. These are not accessible for wheelchairs. Toilet doors open to a maximum of 55cm; one toilet (in the Ladies) has an outward opening door which has 84cm access.

There are two toilets with small hand basins to the side of the amenity block. Whilst these are not wheelchair accessible there is no door lip into the private WC area.

The sinks and toilets are at conventional height. All taps are conventional push button. The showers are turning ones. A hairdryer and shaver socket are provided at conventional height. There is a tiled floor which can be slippery when wet.

There is an indoor washing-up sink located outside to the side of the amenities building. These are conventional height. Access to this dish-washing room is extremely restricted.

Water, recycling and refuse and fire points are located around the site. The chemical disposal point is located in the North East corner of the site by Pitch 35 and is signposted throughout the park.

Grounds

The site is relatively flat, with tarmac roads. The site is situated on a hill and there is sloped access to the site entrance. The dog walk and exercise field can be uneven in places and get muddy and slippy. Care should be taken.

There are no additional seating areas provided around the tent and touring pitches.

Additional Information

The site wardens and site managers live on site and an emergency contact number is provided to all guests.

All dogs are welcome whether they are pets or assistance dogs although they must be kept on a leash at all times whilst on site. We offer dog-friendly holiday lodges with hot tubs, glamping pods and static caravans. Our Chatsworth lodge is not dog-friendly.
